“Pooh and his friends were given as gifts by author A. A. Milne to his son Christopher Robin Milne between 1920 and 1922. Pooh was purchased in London at Harrods for Christopher’s first birthday. Christopher later gave them to publisher E. P. Dutton, who in turn donated them to the New York Public Library.”
Hey, guys! So, we’re all familiar with Cyberpunk and Steampunk, but there are so many more alternate histories/speculative science fiction genres out there! I came across this handy-dandy infographic and figured I could share a bit of these punk genres for anyone interested.
Roughly covers the Western world during the mid- to late-19th century (ie: Victorian era, US wild west, etc.), and sometimes up to the Edwardian era.
1920s up through WWII, ending at just about the Cold War.
A cleaner, artistic, more “optimistic” version of Dieselpunk (same time period)
Covers the time of the Renaissance (think da Vinci)
Cold War era, ie: the Space Race
Derivative of Steampunk, but focuses on electricity rather than steam.
Explicit horror and gore
Biotechnology, genetics (part science fiction, part real life)
Nanotechnology, sometimes overlaps with Biopunk
The granddaddy of them all: computer technology, the internet, hackers, etc.
Others not included in the infographic
Okay, uh, TW for graphic descriptions of rape in the Splatterpunk explanation link (specifically as examples of ~look how edgy and without boundaries this subgenre is~), but I think all the other links should be safe.
Also, Arcanepunk is a theme with combinations of magic and science/technology, or with technology so complex it appears to be magic.

Author: John Scalzi
Good god man! It is a fantastic read for any and all Star Trek fans. In this tale you follow young “redshirts” on the ever exploring ship the Intrepid.
When trying to do their jobs, they find little things getting in the way. Fellow employees disappearing in order to stay alive, a strange box and a genus yeti, of sorts, living in the vents. John Scalzi pieces together such a paradox of characters that will keep you confused until the very end. This book will keep you laughing and rooting for the poor souls forced into those thin red shields.
Don’t forget to watch out for Land Worms because they sure as hell won’t tell you about them in the briefing. Live, Long and Prosper.

A beautiful reference book. I bought mine from Kinokinuya when I was living in California.
They have published three books so far, the 2nd one is focusing on sword action and the third one has a female as the main fighter. I own the swords one and will be looking for the third book at SDCC.
This is the greatest reference post I’ve ever seen.
The first thing Snape asks Harry is “Potter! What would I get if I added powdered root of asphodel to an infusion of wormwood?” According to Victorian Flower Language, asphodel is a type of lily meaning ‘My regrets follow you to the grave’ and wormwood means ‘absence’ and also typically symbolized bitter sorrow. If you combined that, it meant ‘I bitterly regret Lily’s death’.
Joanne Raye Legrasse is a newly graduated college student, working on a novel that involves horrifying monsters. In her research for the novel, she is reading through a book that her late college professor gave her. When she accidentally reads a chant out loud, however, she finds herself faced with a giant monster and his very horny tentacles.
This 3000 word short erotica story includes anal sex, tentacle sex, Cthulhu, and dirty language.
Now I’m really sad because “Booty call of Cthulhu” was in my notebook as a “to-do”… And it already exists :(
I honestly have no words.
This is all you humanity.
BBC Books to release the Melody Malone book from ‘The Angels Take Manhattan’!
It’ll be an e-book available October 4.
From the synopsis:
“On some days, New York is one of the most beautiful places on Earth.
“This was one of the other days…
“Melody Malone, owner and sole employee of the Angel Detective Agency, has an unexpected caller. It’s movie star Rock Railton, and he thinks someone is out to kill him. When he mentions the ‘kiss of the Angel’, she takes the case. Angels are Melody’s business…
“At the press party for Railton’s latest movie, studio owner Max Kliener invites Melody to the film set of their next blockbuster. He’s obviously spotted her potential, and Melody is flattered when Kliener asks her to become a star. But the cost of fame, she’ll soon discover, is greater than anyone could possibly imagine.
